The Lal Kitab, which literally translates to “A Red Book,” is a collection of five volumes on Hindu astrology and palmistry produced in Urdu in the nineteenth century. 
The Samudrika Shastra is the foundation of Lal Kitab astrology.

The Lal Kitab has poetry lyrics on philosophy; subtleties and other details are found in the upayas or farmanns, or prescribed treatments. Its origins are also said to be in Persian literature and astrology. Indeed, it has spawned a new area of Lal Kitab treatments as a result of its beginnings. These cures are straightforward and effective for planetary illnesses in one’s horoscope or natal chart. Lal Kitab astrology has become part of the mythology of the Indian subcontinent over time.
